Hey, I Can Retire Right Now! "It's disgusting. I look around me at all these people fervently socking money away for retirement, and they're just so greedy and stupid. A lot of them want to accumulate an entire million dollars before they retire."
Affordable Places to Retire Tips "When looking for an affordable place to retire, find out how property is taxed. Learn what type of property is taxed, what the tax rates are, and what the exemptions are. For instance, Florida has no income tax, but in addition to a high sales tax there is an intangible personal property tax that taxes a person's investment portfolio."
Cost of Living Calculator " Our special Cost of Living feature lets you compare two cities side-by-side in all the categories you need, such as taxes, housing, food, and other costs. You can enter your salary and our built-in Salary Calculator will determine how much more (or less) you need to maintain your same standard of living."

Cost-of-Living
"Consumer price indexes measure the rate of change of the cost of living, or inflation/deflation rate in goods purchased directly by consumers; they do not compare living expenses between cities. Cost of living indicators are comparative between cities or countries."
Cost of Living: Canada " Most people from the UK and Europe find the cost of living in Canada is significantly lower than their home country. Canadian housing is particularly cheap - the average house price in most Canadian cities is around three times the average annual income. Prices are higher in Toronto and Calgary (four to five times average income) and Vancouver (seven or eight times average income). "

Retirement Tips: Keep Your Lifestyle in Mind When Planning Your Retirement "When looking ahead to retirement, planning is perhaps the most important part, as most retirees need around 70 to 80 percent of pre-retirement income to live comfortably."
Living on a Cruise Ship "There are many differences between our residential ships and ships that are made just for cruises.  The main difference is the type of hull.  Ours is a double wall, twin hull super structure that provides a wider floating area in the water, and vastly increases the level of comfort compared to single hulls.  Much like comparing a bicycle to a hybrid car, or a single hulled boat to a twin hulled catamaran.  The steel in the hull in each liner is thicker for added strength and reliability.  In fact, our hulls will be four times thicker than any ships or boats ever built."
Living on a Cruise Ship Full Time "Traveling the world, seeing all kinds of exotic places, cruising forever with not a care in the world. It is now a reality, and several possibilities exist. "

Love To Cruise?  You Can Live On A Ship " You've probably heard the cruise line pitch: Travel the world without leaving home. But could you forgo that active-adult retirement community for 600 to 1,000 square feet of personal space on the high seas?"
Cruise Ship Condo "I love to travel, though the high cost of housing limits the number and length of trips we can take. So I was intrigued by a notion that has sprung up in several forms over the last few years: selling cruise ship cabins as condos. Roughly speaking, the sales pitch is that for just a bit more money than you’d pay for a luxury condo, you can travel the world in style without leaving home—or spending extra on airfare and hotel accommodations. In other words, if you were thinking about buying a condo anyway, if you like to travel, and if your work and lifestyle don’t tie you to a particular location, you can have your cake and eat it too."

Living At Home

Aging in Place "As seniors remain in their homes until they are in their late 70's or 80's, when they do relocate, they want to stay close to their home of many years. Long distance moves occur when seniors want to be closer to adult children, siblings, or other close relatives, or go back to where they grew up or once lived."
Resources for Living "A variety of independent living products and services are now available to help seniors remain in their own homes despite their changing physical needs. This helps delay — and in many cases, totally avoid — moving into assisted living or nursing homes."
Going it Alone "People who have had a happy marriage may find it easier to move on after the death of their spouse"
Tough Choice: Your Retirement Lifestyle or ... Your House? "On the one hand, you’re not maxing out your 401(k) contributions because you claim you can’t afford to. On the other, you think nothing of dropping a couple of hundred bucks at Home Depot to spruce up your garden, or perhaps several thousand to update your kitchen."
Remaining at Home "Studies show that older Americans prefer to stay in their own homes if they possibly can. It is no surprise, then, that most care of older persons is provided at home, whether by family or by hired help. While many consider in-home care preferable to institutional care, there are public benefits and legal considerations, some of which may be quite unexpected."
Seniors Only Apartments "Senior age-restricted apartments are usually 55 or 62+ and follow HUD regulations which allow for such "age discrimination". If restrictions are 55+, at least one person in the apartment must be at least 55 and the apartment community must have no more than 20% of all residents under the age of 55."
Services to Help Seniors Stay At Home "Each year, more than 22,000 agencies nationwide provide home care services to more than two million people with physical disabilities, chronic health problems, dementia, or terminal illnesses. As the population ages, the number of home care agencies will continue to grow. "
Seniors Living at Home (PDF) "As the demographic tidal wave of baby boomers approaches retirement and old age, our already challenged ability to meet the health care needs of the growing number of seniors is likely to be overwhelmed. This crisis demands fresh thinking and new approaches. Research suggests that certain emerging information technology (IT) applications show promise in improving health and safety for seniors at home by improving the flow of information among healthcare personnel, family members and seniors."
Transportation Services "Transportation is crucial to ensure that access to essential services such as medical care and grocery shopping. The availability of adequate transportation enables older persons to live independently in their communities, helps to prevent isolation and the possible need for long-term care placement. Many older people, who do not drive, must rely on family and friends provide much of the transportation. But for others, it is necessary to find community resources to provide transportation, as this vital support service may be their only connection to the outside world."
Help for Seniors Moving to Smaller Homes " MANY clients have called me in desperation needing my counsel on how to make their furnishings work in their new downsized homes. Many of them are seniors who have for one reason or another made the move to live smaller and simpler lives. "
New Home in Old Age "Life is just starting for Evelyn Simon. After 63 years of calling Houston home, she's nestled into new living quarters in a new town, where she's busy making new friends."
Seniors Moving - How To Find The Right Help "Unlike younger individuals, with senior moves, it is often into a smaller home. This downsizing forces them to discard a lifetime of collectibles and memories. As you can imagine, this is not an easy task physically."
Adult Children Living with Parents "The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that unprecedented numbers of American adults are living with their parents. "
Moving to Be Closer to Your Grandchild "Three couples tell how they made the decision & why. Plus: 5 questions to ask before deciding if uprooting is an option."
How to Tell New Grandparents They Can't Move in When Baby Arrives "I intuitively knew, when my son and his wife had their first baby, that they'd begin to worry about the two, new grandmas bombarding their house. Susie, the other grandma, and I were discussing this just the other day in fact, and we laughed until our old, worn out sides began to ache."
3-Generation Households Increase Due to Necessity "Households brimming with three generations conjure up images of an era when the more hands a family had, the better its chance of survival."
Grandparents Go The Extra Miles To Live Near Their Kids "Like many couples, Mary Jane and Kevin Beebe did not know exactly where they wanted to spend their retirement. But one thing was certain: Grandchildren would be a priority. So when their granddaughter was born last year, they moved from Toms River, N.J., to Pasadena, Calif., to be near her."

On the Road -- RVing

Living the RV Life -- What It's Really Like "Almost everyone likes to travel. Some travelers enjoy a different part of the country each day... and still sleep in their own beds each night."
Life on the Road as a Full-Time RVer "Do you have ‘itchy feet’? Do you love to travel? Do you like to meet new people, see new places? Is your home too large now and are you tired of all the upkeep? Are you retired and want to get excited about a new adventure? Do you want a complete life change? To get away from the old grind? Do you long for some new excitement in your life?"
Index Of O'keefe Full Time Rving Articles "We have the distinct advantage of having our own mini R V park in the backyard. We have complete hookups, including cable TV and telephone, and were able to practice every system on the RV, tearing it down, driving a hundred miles backwards, and setting it back up at least a million times..or so it seemed. We first camped in the backyard, and then decided to expand our horizons."
Fulltime RVing With Bill & Cathy "We have been fulltime RVers twice. The first time began in 2000 and lasted just over a year. The second time started in May 2005 and we haven’t looked back!"
RV Dreams "This website is dedicated to the use of RVs in the pursuit of a dream lifestyle."
The Rv Life "It's the opposite of chic, somewhat rustic and rough. Yet the fastest-growing means for vacationing in America is the recreational vehicle, and the people using them are the finest travelers our country has."
Unlikely Nomads: Senior Single Women Take Up Life On The Road "No one knows how many single women roam the campgrounds, roadsides, and truck stops of North America in motor homes and trailers. But their RVs outnumber those of men at some gathering spots, and their blend of independence and moxie is on display to anyone who bothers to look."
Retired Rvers Make Travel A Way Of Life "For some retirees, recreational vehicles, or RVs, are a comfortable way to travel on extended trips to visit the grandkids. Others have sold their stick-built homes to take to the road full time." 4 pages
eBooks that Enhance Your RV Lifestyle "Our eBooks contain absolutely no "hype," a little humor, and lots of information you can use to enhance your RVing lifestyle. This information is compressed into as few pages as possible and interactive so you can jump from one section that interests you to another with ease. You don't have to read it cover to cover to find what you need."
Retirement in an RV "We did it -- we retired, sold our condominium, and have gone to full-time living and traveling around the country in an RV. All our assets are in our rig or in our financial and retirement accounts. It took some soul searching, but we decided that for us it was the best thing to do, and it was time to do it."
What Does It Take To Be Self Employed And Live Full Time In An RV? " More and more baby boomers are taking their business and their lives on the road as fulltime RVers.  Does your business adapt itself well to being mobile?  What does it take to live in an RV full time? "
On the Road Again "Imagine a new view out your kitchen window every week. If you’re a person who likes to roll with it, the RV life could be for you. "
RV Life: Retirement on Wheels "Thousands of Americans have downsized their lives and taken to the road, living in a recreation vehicle (either a trailer, a self-contained motor coach or a fifth wheel). Folks who live the RV lifestyle call it “full timing”."
An Rx for RV Living "More than a million people have pulled up roots and hit the road full time in recreational vehicles (RVs), according to surveys from the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association. If you're thinking of joining them, be sure to consider your health."
Retired, Single RVer Travels "For some 30 years I practiced law in Mesa, Arizona. (Please don't hold that against me. I really wasn't a very good lawyer.) When I was about to turn 62 years old and collect social security I decided to quit my practice and go camping."
Camping and RVing with Dogs A collecting of useful articles for people who travel with their pets.
Dog Friendly Campgrounds "There are 241 campsites currently listed."
RVing with Pets Links A collecting of useful articles for people who travel with their pets.
RV Travel With Pets "It's fun and convenient to be able to take your pets along with you, but I realized a long time ago that certain precautions must be taken when you travel with pets. There were a lot of things to remember about traveling with our pets, so to make it easier I included this checklist in my Checklists for RVers e-book."
Enjoy Pets "RVing with pets is important to many people. They would not be able to travel otherwise. You must train your pet to live according to the rules. If you don't you will make it difficult for others who have pets. Some parks do not allow pets, or they limit the size by weight. Others disallow certain breeds. Rules, rules, rules .... it gets disgusting, but rules are made because of those inconsiderate people who ruin it for all."
RVing With Pets "This article is not only about cats and dogs. Some folks travel with fish, birds, rabbits, snakes, lizards and ferrets!"
Camping and RV-ing with Your Pet "It has been estimated that approximately 75% of all RVers take their family pet with them. This means that conservatively, more than 20 million people hit the road with their pets each year. While many of these pets are dogs, more than a few RVers bring along their cats, birds, rabbits, horses, and even lizards."
Cats on Wheels "I often see cats sunning themselves on the dashs of RVs, so they obviously make wonderful traveling companions. And let's face it, I've never heard of any cat-owning RVer being asked to leave because the cat was barking! "
RVing With Cats "As far as I am, concerned rving with cats is much easier. Just think you do not have to take a cat outside like a dog, you do not have to take them for walks and they do not take up as much room as a dog. Oh, one more thing, they do not bark or howl!"
RVing With Cats "Eight lucky kitties escaped abandonment and drowning to live an enviable life on the road in a custom Country Coach condo. For two years and 20,000 miles, Carolyn and Cub Clinger have provided cozy living conditions, medical attention, custom meals and spectacular sightseeing for this well-traveled cat family."
RV Awnings May Be Dangerous "The public should be aware of the dangers involving awnings attached to the side of recreational vehicles (RVs) and horse trailers. The hazard is that awnings which have been rolled up and fastened to the side of the vehicle may become dislodged and hang out towards oncoming traffic"
The Uncovered Truth behind RV Tires, Accidents & Rollovers "Many families are unaware that as they pack in their luggage, food and supplies for their motorized vacation, they’re only adding to their chance of risk."
Trailer Sway: A Hidden Danger and A Reliable Fix "Despite increasing popularity and convenience, a dangerous but often unknown phenomenon known as “Trailer Sway” can quickly turn a family outing into a family disaster."
Are RVs Covered Under Homeowners’ Insurance? " More than just a means of transportation, your RV is your home away from home and a source of many great experiences and memories."

Independent & Assisted Living

Assisted Living Facilities for Seniors "As the Baby Boomers enter their retirement years, it's inevitable that some of these seniors, who may once have headed companies or traveled the globe, might start to need assistance with day-to-day activities. But they are understandably reluctant to forfeit their independence. Someone accustomed to managing a business (or a family) can have a difficult time acknowledging that they forget to take their medication, or need help getting bathed and dressed.  Because they do not need daily medical care at this point, Assisted Living can be a good housing option."
